Active citizens for peace through environmental action – Jumpstarting Cyprus

Jumpstart peace initiative in CyprusJumpstart Youth Peace as part of CCMC member initiative is an EU-funded project “Jumpstart Youth Peace Campaign in Cyprus” to promote active citizenship where young Cypriots are being mobilized from both communities to engage citizenship through peace.

The “Jumpstart Youth Peace Campaign in Cyprus”. revolves around a set of activities for the weekend on 28-30 January 2011. These activities will include trainings, film screenings and discussions focusing on sustainable development and the interdependence between contemporary global issues and local reality.

It will end up with an activity on the field, including cleaning of a beach near Kyrenia with accommodation, food and transportation from and to Nicosia will be covered for the participants and the EU-funded initiative “Jumpstart Youth Peace Campaign”.

The Youth Peace Campaign in Cyprus held a Kick -Off event already called the The Island Peace Bus Tour, which marked the starting point of an island-wide peace bus tour that will conduct a diverse set of activities both in the cities and villages of Cyprus until mid February 2011…more

About JumpStart

JUMPSTART” Youth Peace Campaign in Cyprus is a European Commission funded joint action put forward by Youth Center Union (Genclik Merkezi Birligi), a Turkish Cypriot NGO, which is the leader of the project, and its partner Future Worlds Center, an NGO in the Greek Cypriot Community.

“JUMPSTART” Youth Peace Campaign in Cyprus aims to:

  • Increase confidence building between the Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot youth 16-30 years
  • Create opportunities for youth to actively engage in reconciliation activities
  • Promote inter-cultural dialogue and its methods and language as a concept and as the means for envisioning a future Cyprus
  • Enable Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot youth to challenge their own stereotypes and perceptions as well as to develop the capacity to challenge those of the community at large
